At Balls 32 this past September, for the first time in over 20 years, the Tripoli Board of Directors invited three teams to bring their liquid motor projects to the launch. These teams successfully demonstrated their operational and safety procedures, culminating in static motor firings. Those who passed were authorized to fly their projects for the remainder of the launch, offering attendees a rare opportunity to witness the safe operation of these motors in action.
Due to the success of this initiative, the Tripoli BOD is expanding the program for Balls 33. This year, we will accept up to six applications for teams or individuals wishing to participate in the liquid motor demonstration at Balls 33, scheduled for September 18-21, 2025. Teams must utilize bi-propellant motors with nitrous oxide as the oxidizer, paired with one of the following organic solvents as fuel:
- Isopropyl alcohol
- Ethanol
- E85 gasoline
- E98 gasoline
Applicants must also provide evidence of:
- Successfully firing this motor configuration at least four times previously
- Successfully flying and recovering a rocket of similar impulse twice
The final deadline for applications is April 30, 2025.
