BAJA Rocket Science is Mexico’s premier experimental rocket launch event, organized by Tripoli Mexico for more than five years. It is held annually in the Laguna Salada desert near Mexicali, Baja California.
This event unites dedicated rocketry enthusiasts from around the globe who are at the forefront of non-professional rocketry. Participants showcase cutting-edge designs using today’s best technologies—often launching some of the largest non-professional rockets found anywhere.
BAJA Rocket Science offers a venue for projects that cannot be flown elsewhere due to safety considerations or extreme altitude capabilities. These may include large rockets, complex assemblies or groupings, metal rockets, self-designed or manufactured engines, and emerging technologies under development or testing.
Laguna Salada has a long history as a launch site for large rockets, thanks to its vast expanse and proven high-altitude recovery record. Over the years, it has become Mexico’s showcase for top-tier non-professional rocketry. The craftsmanship, size, power, and technology on display here are unparalleled anywhere in the country.
A hallmark of BAJA Rocket Science is the open exchange of ideas and methods, freely shared with anyone who asks. The event primarily hosts research engines and hazardous projects. Access to launch base areas will be strictly limited to Tripoli members.
BAJA Rocket Science 2025 will take place on October 10, 11, and 12 at the Tripoli Rocketry Association-approved launch field of Prefecture #161 in Laguna Salada. Registration is mandatory for all attendees—spectators and participants alike. All launches are conducted under the Tripoli Unified Safety Code.
The main objective of BAJA Rocket Science is to foster innovation and technological advancement in experimental launch vehicles within Mexico. It provides a one-of-a-kind space for enthusiasts, students, professionals, and researchers to present, share, and test their designs, experiments, and discoveries.
By promoting collaboration and international knowledge sharing, BAJA Rocket Science encourages professional connections and networking opportunities. The event also aims to inspire the next generation of engineers and scientists, offering them a chance to learn from experts and immerse themselves in the thrilling, challenging world of space engineering.
