News from LDRS 42 and Tripoli Meeting

Published on 6/10/2024

The Tripoli Annual Banquet and Board Meeting took place on Saturday night, June 8, 2024, following a successful day of flying on the LDRS 42 range. The banquet was attended by a large number of members who enjoyed an excellent barbecue meal. LDRS 42 was one for the record books with nearly 400 registered flyers. While the weather did not fully cooperate, there were enough windows of opportunity to see flyers get a large number of rockets in the air over the first three days of the event.

We are excited to share the results of this year's Board of Directors election! We had seven outstanding candidates volunteering to serve, and we are pleased to announce the following appointments:

  • Gary Dickinson has been re-elected to a third term.
  • Debra Koloms is returning to the Board for a fifth term.
  • Bryce Chanes will serve his first term on the Board of Directors.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Pat Artis for his three years of dedicated service and to Chris Short for his remarkable six-year tenure on the Board. Their hard work and contributions have been invaluable to our association.

As required by the TRA bylaws, the new officers for the upcoming 12 months were selected by the new Board of Directors:
  • Bob Brown - President
  • Gerald Meux - Vice President
  • Amy Howell - Secretary
  • Dave Rose - Treasurer
Tripoli Patch from SpaceIn exciting event news, we are thrilled to announce that Tripoli Central California will host LDRS 43, which will be held from May 15-18, 2025. More information will follow this announcement, so stay tuned!

We were honored to have astronaut and Tripoli member Woody Hoburg on site. Woody provided an inspiring look back at his journey through high-power rocketry and beyond. He also received his Lifetime Membership award in person, as he was awarded it last year while on the International Space Station. During his visit, he presented Tripoli with the Tripoli patch he carried with him to the ISS. This patch will be on permanent display at the Museum of High Power Rocketry located in the Aerotech facility in Cedar City, Utah.

Additionally, Bob Brown presented Neal Baker with the President's Award for 2024 in recognition of his exceptional work on the Tripoli website and other contributions related to Tripoli's digital footprint.

Thank you to all our members for your continued support and dedication. We look forward to another successful year ahead!
